A Wedding Band for Gloucester and the Forest of Dean

Wedding bands Gloucester - The Brotherhood, a South Wales wedding band playing Gloucester weddings at Elmore Court, Hatherley Manor, Blackfriars Priory and across the Forest of Dean.

Wedding Band Gloucester - From South Wales Across the Severn

Gloucester sits across the Severn from our South Wales base - up the A40 from Monmouth or over the bridge from Chepstow. The Gloucester wedding circuit covers the city itself, the Forest of Dean to the west (which borders our own Monmouthshire and Chepstow patches), and the country-house and Cotswold-edge venues out towards Cheltenham and Cirencester.

Gloucester wedding venues

The venues listed above are the rooms we’ve played or that we’d recommend for live entertainment. A few things worth knowing:

  • Elmore Court’s Gillyflower is one of the better purpose-built wedding rooms in the wider area - designed with live music in mind, with acoustics that suit a full band.
  • The historic-priory and castle venues (Blackfriars Priory, Clearwell Castle) have the rooms with character but also the access constraints that come with listed buildings - confirm equipment routes and parking with the venue early.
  • The Forest of Dean venues (Clearwell, The Speech House) are practically next door to our Chepstow and Monmouthshire circuits - a Forest of Dean wedding is the same drive from us as Chepstow itself.

Stone rooms and how we handle them

Gloucester weddings tend to happen in old buildings made of stone - priories, castle ballrooms, converted halls. Those rooms carry sound a long way on their own, so the mix matters far more than the wattage. Get it wrong and the vocal disappears into reverb while the low end piles up in the corners.

Our answer is to put less in the room to begin with. In-ear monitors instead of floor wedges, guitar and bass DI’d to the desk instead of amps on stage: the PA is then the only source, and a single controllable source in a hard room is worth more than any amount of extra volume.

Timings are worth settling early too. Older buildings more often come with a fixed finish set by the venue rather than by you, so pin that down before you plan the evening around it - it changes where the first dance sits and how long the dancefloor actually gets.

The 5-piece Brotherhood suits most Gloucester rooms. Six-piece adds sax through the soul and funk end. Bigger lineups earn their place in the larger ballrooms like Clearwell Castle, where the room has the volume to take brass without it turning into a wall. Our acoustic lineups handle the ceremony and drinks reception if you want the whole day covered.

Travel from South Wales

From our South Wales base, Gloucester is around an hour from Newport - the Forest of Dean venues less than that. We travel for the day. Gloucester weddings often pair with our wider Cotswolds wedding band catchment and our work as a Bristol wedding band down the M5. Ten miles up the A40, our wedding bands Cheltenham page covers that town’s venues.

Recommended Wedding Venues in Gloucester

We've performed at many beautiful venues in the area. Here are some of our favourites:

Elmore Court

A truly special venue - this 750-year-old manor house combines historic charm with a modern, relaxed approach. The Gillyflower is a purpose-built space with incredible acoustics designed with live music in mind. The team here genuinely understand entertainment and make setup effortless.

Hatherley Manor Hotel

A 17th-century manor house with beautiful grounds. The Dorian Suite offers excellent space for a full band with good ceiling height and a proper dance floor. The staff are experienced with weddings and very accommodating with supplier requirements.

Blackfriars Priory

One of the most atmospheric wedding venues in the country - a beautifully restored 13th-century Dominican priory. The acoustics in the historic spaces are remarkable. Requires some care with equipment positioning, but the result is unforgettable.

Stonehouse Court Hotel

An elegant Grade II listed manor with well-proportioned function rooms. The main suite handles a full band comfortably, and there's level access for equipment. The gardens provide a lovely backdrop for drinks receptions while we set up.

Clearwell Castle

A Gothic Revival castle on the edge of the Forest of Dean. The ballroom is genuinely impressive - high ceilings, dramatic architecture, and acoustics that suit live music beautifully. The castle setting creates an unforgettable atmosphere for evening entertainment.

The Speech House Hotel

Set in the heart of the Forest of Dean, this historic verderers' court offers a unique woodland setting. The Ballroom has character and warmth, and works well for bands. A wonderful choice for couples wanting something away from the typical country house circuit.

Booking a Wedding Band in Gloucester

How much does a wedding band cost in Gloucester?

The lineup and the date set it. Gloucester is close - up the A40 from Monmouth or over the bridge from Chepstow - and a Forest of Dean wedding is the same drive from us as Chepstow itself.

Send the venue and date over for a proper quote.

Which Gloucester venues are best for a live band?

The Gillyflower at Elmore Court is the standout. It was designed with live music in mind rather than converted into a room that tolerates it, and the acoustics suit a full band properly.

The historic-priory and castle venues - Blackfriars, Clearwell - have far more character but also the access constraints listed buildings always bring.

How do you handle the stone rooms?

By doing less in them. Stone reflects everything, and a band playing a priory or a castle at hotel-ballroom volume ends up as a wash where the words disappear.

We run in-ear monitors instead of wedges and DI the guitar and bass to the desk, so nothing fires into the stone except what we choose to put through the PA.

Do you cover the Forest of Dean?
Yes - Clearwell Castle and The Speech House sit practically next door to our Chepstow and Monmouthshire circuits. It is one of the shorter runs in the diary.
