Most country houses make you earn the room. You park somewhere round the back, find a service corridor, and trolley the kit past a kitchen and up three steps with a fire door on a closer. Eastington Park doesn’t do any of that. You drive up to the front of the house, stop, and there is a single door on the end of the building - not the main entrance, the one next to it - that opens straight into the room where you’re playing.
Eastington Park at a glance
A Grade II listed Georgian manor in eight acres of gardens and parkland at Eastington, less than two minutes from Junction 13 of the M5 and halfway between Bristol and Cheltenham. The ballroom seats up to 118 for the wedding breakfast and the house takes up to 250 for the evening, with ceremonies licensed indoors or outside under the pergola. Hire is exclusive from midday until 10am the next morning, and 33 bedrooms on the estate keep up to 72 guests on site. The team here took Best Wedding Events Team at the National Wedding Industry Awards in 2022, and it shows in how a supplier gets handled on the day - you’re told where to be and then left to get on with it.
The quickest get-in we do
The performance area is the end of the room with the big curved bay windows, and the load-in door puts you inside it. No stairs, no service corridor, and nothing goes through the main entrance or the hall. It is the fastest in-and-out of any venue on our diary, at both ends of the night.
Power is sorted too. There are around eight 13A sockets along the wall on the left as you face the bay window, which is the end we set up on, so everything plugs in within a few feet of where it stands. We bring our own PA and lighting, run in-ear monitors rather than floor wedges, and DI the guitar and bass to the desk - nothing on stage is firing into the plasterwork independently of the mix.
There is a sound limiter fitted in the room. We played at the level the room wanted and never went near tripping it. That is mostly down to the in-ears and the DI’d backline - with the PA as the only source, we can put the volume where the dancefloor needs it and the meter stays out of it.
Which lineup suits the room
This is a bay window in a Georgian house, not a stage, and the footprint is the limit rather than the guest numbers. The 5-piece Brotherhood is the right call - two vocals, guitar, bass and drums, with keys in the fifth chair. A six fits, but it’s a squeeze, and anything with brass on it won’t go in.
Keys is the one we’d argue for in the fifth chair here. Georgian proportions with tall windows and hard plaster carry sound a long way on their own, and piano and organ sit underneath a room like that and hold it together without adding another source on the floor.
How the day runs here
Ceremony in the house or out at the pergola, drinks across the lawns, wedding breakfast in the ballroom, then the evening. We load in as the breakfast room clears, which is where the end door earns its keep - the gear comes off the front of the house and straight down to the bay-window end while the room is being turned round. There is no point in the day where we are working across your guests.
We open with a half-hour that leans chilled and holds your first dance, then two fifty-minute sets arranged our own way, with DJ playlists between and after. Eastington runs a 24-hour bar licence, so the running order is something you agree with the venue rather than work back from a fixed finish. Settle it at planning stage - where the evening food lands changes how we split the sets.
Worth sorting before the day
Evening food is the one to think about, particularly if it’s outdoors. We’ve played here on a night when a mobile pizza oven came in and took most of the guests out of the building for over forty minutes. We changed the set times to suit it, and wrote that one up.
