Camille Bennett sings this one, recorded the same afternoon as the rest of the 2015 Kitchen Sessions.
Rather Be is a dance record and most of what people love about it is the production - the string hook, the pace, the sheer amount going on. Take that away and you are left with a strong melody and a singer who has to carry the whole thing on their own. Camille has the control to do it quietly, which is harder than doing it loudly.
The guitar implies the string line rather than copying it note for note, which leaves space for the vocal to sit in. One pass, everyone in the same room, no click track.
Camille sings with both The Brotherhood and The Sisterhood, and this was among the first things she recorded with us.
