Modern pop is the hardest thing to do unplugged. The production is not decoration on top of the song, it often is the song, and a lot of contemporary chart material simply falls apart when you sit down and play it on a guitar. No Tears Left To Cry survives because there is a strong melody underneath and a chord sequence that goes somewhere.
The tempo change at the start is the interesting bit and we kept it, which meant getting six people to shift together with no click track and no drummer counting it in.
Including current pop in the Kitchen Sessions was deliberate. Plenty of function bands can show you a convincing Motown video and then struggle with anything released in the last decade. Younger guests notice.
