Four years after the first Kitchen Sessions we went back and did it again, with a different set of songs and most of the same idea.
This was the one that opened the 2019 run. Long Train Running is a band song more than a singer’s song - the whole thing hangs off a guitar part that has to keep moving for four minutes without getting boring, and if the rhythm section drifts even slightly the wheels come off. Jon Lilygreen takes the vocal over the top of it.
We picked it because it is a proper workout and there is nowhere to hide in a room with no production on it. If a band can hold this together sitting round a kitchen table, they can hold it together on a stage.
It has been a fixture of our sets for years, usually somewhere in the middle of the first dancefloor set when the room has filled up but people have not committed yet. It tends to do the committing for them.
