Everywhere
Fleetwood MacMay 2015Tay Cousins - lead vocals, Matt Sage - guitar
Everywhere is one of the most requested songs in our catalogue and it is genuinely difficult to arrange acoustically, because almost everything people love about it is texture. That shimmering intro is a studio effect. Take it away and you are left holding a very exposed vocal melody.
Tay Cousins handles that by going lighter rather than bigger. The temptation with a song this well known is to belt it, and the version that works in a small room does the opposite - it stays conversational, and lets the guitar carry the movement underneath.
Spring 2015 was the point where a run of new vocalists came into the band, and these recordings were partly how we worked out who suited what. This one settled the question quickly.
It also comes up a lot as a first dance. Worth knowing that we can play it either way - this stripped-back version for the dance itself, or the full band arrangement to follow straight out of it, which is how it usually goes on the night.
