Back at ICC Wales in Newport, but not in the main hall this time. This one’s in the Woodland Suite - still a big room by anyone’s standards, with banqueting for around 550 people, but a different feel to the 4,000 square metre hall.
The Woodland Suite
350 guests tonight. Plenty of room for a dancefloor, tables for the meal, poseur tables for informal drinks, and enough stage room for all 8 of us. It’s got more of a ballroom feel than the main hall, intimate enough to connect with the whole room, but big enough for some serious partying!
Conference, Dinner, Then Us
The format was a classic one - day-long conference, drinks reception, three course dinner, then we’re on. Two one-hour sets, then our DJ takes over for the disco.
Honestly, this is the best kind of crowd to play to. They’ve sat through a full day of talks, they’ve had a few drinks with dinner, and by the time we’re on they are ready to go. Backstage you catch the aromas coming out of the kitchens, and the chefs at ICC Wales clearly know what they’re doing.
Our PA, Our Lights
We provided the PA and lighting for this one, which is less common for us at the ICC Wales, but we are well equipped for very large rooms like the Woodland Suite. We do the same thing at the Caernarfon Suite over at Celtic Manor for their Christmas parties, New Year’s Eve, and various corporate events - that’s 750 seated for dinner with a dance floor and stage for the full 11-piece band. Not many bands carry a rig that covers rooms at this level, and it means clients don’t always need to bring in a separate production company.
Not Just the Big Room
The main hall at ICC Wales seats nearly 2,000 for a dinner with stage and dance floor, and we’ve done some big ones in there. But the Woodland Suite shows there’s more to the venue than the headline numbers. Same standard, different scale.
