We’re back at ICC Wales tonight - but this time we’re not in the main hall. Tonight’s corporate event is in the Woodland Suite, one of the venue’s ‘smaller’ function rooms with banqueting capacity for around 560.
A Different Kind of ICC Gig
The Woodland Suite is a step down in scale from the main hall, but it’s still a seriously impressive room. With 350 guests tonight, there’s plenty of space for a proper dancefloor without the room feeling cavernous. It’s closer in feel to a large hotel ballroom - intimate enough that the band connects with the whole room, but big enough to handle a full production.
Conference to Party
Tonight’s event followed a classic corporate format - a day-long conference, followed by a drinks reception, then a three course dinner. Our job is the finale - two one-hour sets of floor-fillers, then we hand over to the DJ for the disco to close the night out.
This kind of running order works brilliantly. By the time we hit the stage, the guests have been through a full day of talks and meetings, they’ve had a few drinks, a good meal, and they’re absolutely ready to let loose. There’s no warming the room up - they’re already there.
Bringing Our Own Production
One thing that’s different about tonight - we’re providing the PA and lighting ourselves. That’s unusual for us at ICC Wales. When we play the main hall, the venue’s in-house production team handles everything - it’s a 4,000 square metre space and needs a rig to match.
But the Woodland Suite is a different proposition. At this size, our own PA and lighting setup is more than enough to fill the room properly. It also gives us full control over the sound and the look of the show, which is always a bonus. For clients, it can be a more cost-effective option too - no need to book a separate production company when the room suits what we already carry.
ICC Wales Beyond the Main Hall
We’ve played some big events in the main hall at ICC Wales - New Year’s Eve for over a thousand guests, full conference reveals with glitter balls and the works. But what tonight shows is that the ICC isn’t just about the massive events. The venue has a range of function rooms that suit everything from 100 to 1,000+ guests, and the standard of the venue is the same throughout.
