The marquee at Fforest Farm fills differently when there is an 11-piece on the stage and a room that has been building all day. Daytime activities, a few hours to reset, then the evening.
This is a client we work with twice a year - once at DEPOT Cardiff for urban warehouse energy, once out here at Fforest for the rural setup. We wrote about the DEPOT warehouse party too - same people, completely different spaces. Fforest sits on our Pembrokeshire and West Wales run - not often, but worth the drive for an all-day celebration. More space, softer acoustics and countryside around it all change what an 11-piece can do with a room.
We brought the full show - keys, horns, three-part vocals - because a marquee that size needs the weight. Marquee acoustics are forgiving if you have the numbers to fill them.
The D&B system is solid and the crew know the room, so the load-in was clean and the soundcheck ran on time. Two sets back to back with the dancefloor packed, and a room that pushes back at you while you play it.
The marquee opens to the night with the farm around it, which is nothing like a ballroom, and the clients who book it know that going in. By the end of the night people were knackered and grinning.
