We played a corporate Christmas party at The Pavilion, Kensington Palace for a Sternberg Clark event in early December. Hired-in production rig, good crowd, everyone dancing — the kind of night that moves fast and ends well.
The setup
The Pavilion is a purpose-built garden room within the palace grounds. Open floor, no fixed furniture, so the load-in was straightforward — we drove right up, unloaded, and positioned the stage ourselves. The event had a full hired production team on site: D&B Audiotechnik PA, Yamaha QL5 mixing console, lighting rig with blinders and moving heads. Professional touring-level kit.
Our sound engineer took the QL5 in soundcheck and dialled the band’s mix in quickly. The desk is intuitive, the AV team running it knew the room, and by the time we hit the first set the balance was locked in. We run in-ear monitors only — no floor wedges — so once the PA was tuned and the IEM mixes were balanced on stage, the room’s acoustics did the rest.
The event
Corporate Christmas party. Good crowd, everyone in the mood to celebrate. We ran the corporate set format — two 60-minute dancefloor sets blended together in our own style — and the pacing worked. Reception drinks, seated dinner, then the band and a full dance floor for the rest of the night. The Pavilion’s open floor and ability to reset quickly between phases meant the transition from seated to dancefloor was clean and fast.
The event team at the palace were organised and collaborative. They knew how to move the evening forward without losing momentum, and by the time the first big singalong landed the room was ready to go.
