After hundreds of weddings across South Wales, the Severn Valley and into the Cotswolds, these are the rooms we most like walking into - judged on what they do for a band rather than what they look like in a brochure.

Hensol Castle
The Great Hall at Hensol Castle is one of the best-sounding rooms in South Wales, and there’s space for a big lineup without eating into the dancefloor. The evening party usually runs next door in the Courtyard Hall, where the glass side wall opens onto the courtyard and the party spreads in and out through the last couple of hours.
Elmore Court
Over the bridge into Gloucestershire, the Gillyflower at Elmore Court was built for the music end of the day rather than converted for it - an installed Funktion One system, six speakers ringing the dancefloor from a circular truss, and straw-bale walls that mean there’s no limiter on the wall.
St Tewdrics House
Up in the hills above Chepstow with views across the Severn. The Courtyard at St Tewdrics House is small enough that 150 standing is a full room and the dancefloor is already where everyone is standing. Stone walls and a glass roof make it lively, so it wants a balanced PA more than it wants volume.
Llanerch Vineyard Hotel
A vineyard wedding in the Vale of Glamorgan. The Woodland Marquee has an installed Outline rig with delay speakers down the room, so the dancefloor stays even front to back and the level on stage can sit low. Oxwich Bay Hotel, Gower
Right out at the western end on the Gower, Oxwich Bay Hotel is the one venue on this list where the sea is the backdrop to the first dance - a marquee pitched above the sand with the bay running out behind the dancefloor. There’s no other room quite like it in South Wales. We’ve written up the beach marquee wedding we played there, load-in and all.
Canada Lodge & Lake
Tucked away near Cardiff with a lake in the grounds and a barn-style function room. Guests tend not to have been there before, which is half of why they remember it.
Peterstone Court
Up in the Brecon Beacons, Peterstone Court has a single flexible room with kind acoustics and height to the sound, no fitted limiter, and sash windows wide enough to pass flightcases through off the gravel when the band sets up at the front.
Dewsall Court
Just over the border into Herefordshire, Dewsall Court hides the band behind partition doors at the back of the Wainhouse Barn through the whole wedding breakfast. Speeches end, the doors slide back, and the stage and dancefloor are already there.
Manor by the Lake, Cheltenham
