WalesOnline have run a piece on Disco Delilah, our version of the Tom Jones song, recorded with Tobias Robertson. You can read it and watch the video here.
The arrangement was Tobias’s
Tobias sings with us. He’s from Newport, he was on Boy George’s team on The Voice UK in 2016, and he’s Cilla Black’s great nephew.
He worked the arrangement out at home on acoustic guitar and brought it into a rehearsal.
“I chose that song because I’m always looking to put my own spin on a song - but Delilah is so much of an anthem. So I wrote an acoustic arrangement at home with a funky rhythm and some different chords and I played it in a Brotherhood rehearsal and everyone started joining in and we all moulded it into Disco Delilah.”
What we changed
The melody and the words are untouched. Underneath, it’s disco - straight four on the floor instead of the original’s sway, and different chords under the verse.
The solo section moves again, into an upbeat Latin feel, more samba than disco. The last chorus comes back into the disco groove.
We still play Delilah straight as well. This one is for when the floor is already full.
The lineup
We filmed it with a full lineup - vocal line across the front of the stage, rhythm section behind.
“The Brotherhood isn’t like a normal wedding band. We are a big collective of musicians who all know a lot of songs and we have interchangeable members to fill needs on certain gigs. It’s like a big musical family, we’re all great friends who just love entertaining people and performing is our passion.”
